We got hit with a blizzard yesterday. It was a monster of a storm and it blew in 17" of snow with 55 mph winds. Weather forecasters knew it was going to be big so our mayor even closed schools the day before. Did you hear the cheer from a million school children? I can't remember when that's happened. My job also closed prior thereto which was a wonderful gift not to have to leave the house. It would have been even more wonderful if they'd given us another snow day. It was treacherous driving today. Secondary roads were horrendous and it was a white-knuckle commute for sure. I managed to avoid what would have been a serious 4-car pile up. But even with all the dangers of such a large snowfall here in this bustling metropolis, I couldn't help but notice the beauty of it too. Here are a few pics of what it looked like outside my house this morning and one of the tree last night as it was coming down. Poor tree was bent to the point of breaking with the weight of all that snow.

Serene - so glad you posted these, as I have been wondering how you've been making out way up north! We only have about 8 inches here, and honey that is quite enough, thank you very much! I agree, that while a pain to deal with, it is very beautiful when you stop to just take it in!
Beautiful, Serene! We've only had rain here this winter...mildest winter in history, or so I've heard. Part of me misses getting a little bit of snow, but the other part of me is sooooo relieved that I don't have to drive in the stuff this year. Thanks, El Nino!
While it really is pretty... it's still a pain in the kazoo! This has been the strangest winter I can ever remember...why it's snowing here again right now! In OKLAHOMA! We've had more snow this winter already than we get in 10 years combined.

It really is beautiful. I always loved when it first enveloped, everything so very quiet. By day 3 I was like, ahhhh get lost snow!!!
Oh how pretty! Especially since I don't have to shovel it! heehee.
We're still waiting for our first big storm of the season; it usually arrives in January but I'm not foolish enough to believe it passed us by this year.
