Memorial Day Weekend

The lovely 3-day long Memorial Day weekend is winding up and it'll be back to reality soon but I thought I'd take a little more play time and update my blog which I haven't done in a while. It was a really nice weekend as we had no rain for a change. It was a little warmer than I would like but one can't have everything, can one?

A lot has happened since my last post. Let's see, I went to Texas and Oklahoma to see my friends, Lisa and Kathi. I had a blast to say the least and I thank Lisa, David and Kathi for their hospitality. They treated me so well and totally spoiled me. It was a really nice trip but it flew by way too quickly. Isn't that always the case when you're having fun? I can't wait to go back to see my friends. Maybe in September for Kathi's crop if the airfare prices cooperate. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed they do.

Here is a picture of what happened when I was packing for my trip. Whenever I pack, my kitties think I'm giving them new places to hang out and inevitably, I end up having to move them out of the suitcases so I can continue to pack. Here we see Shave sleeping on the back of couch, Gizmo in the large suitcase and Bluebell in the smaller one.
Logan had 2 baseball games last week. Here is Logan getting ready for one of those games. It was 96 degrees that day. To say it was a scorcher is an understatement but we were there cheering him on. Boy, did we all need showers after that game.
And here's one of him up at bat. He batted an rbi in this time.
So take a look at another little baby resting on Jim's shoulder. This is a different kitten from the same litter as the kitten I posted last time. This one is a sweet, little girl and she's just darling. She's 4 weeks old now and extremely lovable and playful. We are very much considering keeping her. She's still on kitten replacement formula and I feed her every few of hours with a small baby bottle. I can't help but be reminded of when my son was an infant with the middle of the night feedings. I also hear my mom's words in my head "babies are for the young" because let me tell you, it's way harder getting up for those early morning feedings now than it was 13 years ago when my son was little. I'm trying to get her to lap up her milk from a saucer and she's slowly getting it so that's good.
We went to Leo and Andi's house yesterday for another great bbq. We took the baby with us as she needs constant care. Here she is ready for her road trip. Cute, right? She slept on my shoulder for the hour ride to their house.
And since it was so lovely in their backyard, she thought she'd just take another little catnap on the patio furniture after her afternoon feeding. Notice her full belly, the little piggy.
We went back to that pond Leo took us to the last time we visited them. While it was very sunny and hot, a perfectly positioned tree lent me some shade from where I could enjoy the scenery. Caterina caught her very own fish which was very exciting for her. It's called a "sunny" and after posing for this proud picture, she released her catch back into the pond.
Well, it's dinner time now and reality has crept back in to pop my 3-day long weekend bubble.
Hope you had a great weekend and took a moment to remember our veterans on this day. We owe them so much for their sacrifices.
Nice evening, all!

New arrival

Say hello to a brand new life. Take a look at this precious little furball just 2 weeks old. This tiny blue eyed baby was born to a semi-stray female living in a wooden cathouse a neighbor built for her across the street. She had 4 kittens in total and they are adorable to say the least. I "borrowed" this one for a little while as we want to acclimate them to being handled so they will be adoptable. I, naturally, fell in love with this creature even before he licked my chin. Once he did that, well, you can imagine how hard it was returning him to his mommy but he needed to nurse. Say hi, he's waving to you!

What a face! Too cute!
He cuddled up in a ball on Logan.
Just darling, right? Well, now on to my first baby. Logan had a baseball game last night. His team won the game and Logan even pitched some. The coach pulled Logan from shortstop and put him on the mound. He hadn't pitched since last season but he did very well by throwing some really nice strikes.
Here are some pics of Logan pitching. I took these shots thru the holes in the chain link fence lining the field. Sorry they are kind of dark. It was almost 8 pm.

Hope you enjoyed seeing my babies. Thanks for coming by.

May Flowers

Good morning, dear bloggers.

I'm feeling very springish (is that even a word?) lately. The weather has been nice the last few days so I went shopping last night at a little mom and pop nursery that I like. They give that extra bit of personal service that you can't get at a Home Depot. I had such a good time there enjoying all the fragrances from all the different types of flowers that seemed to be whispering to me with their colorful blooms, saying, "pick me, pick me". In the end, I opted for some simple impatiens because I know how they start off small but will fill out my flower boxes wonderfully. They will also continually bloom and hold up well to the full sun my porch gets.

Once I'd decided on the type of flower, there was another choice to make; what color of impatiens. I let Logan choose and he went for deep pink and red. I also bought my favorite hanging plant, a Million Bells. By the end of the summer that plant will be huge with tons of flowers. Jim rigged up something for me so I could hang it from my porch awning. While I was cooking dinner, I planted my newly acquired flowers. I'm all for multi-tasking so I went to play in the dirt while the pasta cooked.

Here's my pretty Million Bells.
And the deep pink impatiens. They are actually a deeper pink than the picture shows but it was past sunset by this time.
Here are the red ones.
And of course, Gizmo had to lend his assistance. I turned my back to get the soil and there he was in the box. What a good little helper he is, right?

Well, that's it for now bloggers. Hope you enjoyed my pretty flowers...and inquisitive kitty.
Wishing you a happy day!

Melissa's cj and other fun stuff

Happy May to everyone! Spring is in full bloom here. Saturday was Jim's birthday and Mother Nature gave us a beautiful day. Logan and Caterina had baseball games in the morning but in the afternoon we went to Leo and Andi's house and had another wonderful day with them.

We had a bbq and then went to a very scenic pond near their house where Leo and the kids fished. It was so nice sitting there on the bank of the pond. Jim had thrown some lawn chairs in the back of my car the day before so we were set. There were a pair of geese who floated around the pond and I felt like we'd stumbled upon their secret hideaway but they graciously shared it with us. After a good period of time, it became apparent that the fish weren't in the mood to bite so the kids went in search of other excitement in the way of frog hunting. It didn't take long before they'd found some. I kept waiting to hear a splash sound meaning one of the kids had fallen into the pond but luckily both kids stayed dry.

Here's a pic of Jim and Logan on the bank of the pond.

And here's Leo. The rest of his shirt says "Repeat". Cute, right?
And the kids, Caterina and Logan.

Here's a nice shot of Logan casting his line.

It was a really nice day and I want to thank Leo and Andi. It's great to have friends like you!

Ok, here is Melissa's cj - 5 Things I can't live without. I finally got it done. Yay! It's about time, I know! I also did the sign-in but the stickles weren't dry last night so I'll finish that up tonight. It was hard to photograph these. Without the flash, they were too dark and with the flash, they are hard to read but you get the idea.

Thanks for dropping by. Later, friends.
